Hi Alberto, great article, I completely agree with you.

I still remember the day I solved the gradient descent equations by hand on a piece of paper, and thinking AI is really just smart pattern recognition and optimization. I lost interest that day.

I think the problem lies in first marketing, and second the expectations that people on the outside have. The simple reason that we cannot have AGI anytime soon, is because your brain is not a mathematical model.

But yes, ML and DL have been game changers, and helped us solve new types of problems.

I wish people stopped using the word AI for simple statistical models running on fast computers.
